They say ‘age is just a number.’ There have been many instances when the senior citizens have surprised the world with their determination and willpower to learn and try new things at an age when it is time for them to relax after leading a fulfilled life.
Yet another inspiring instance has come to the internet’s notice and they cannot help but laud him. A retired banker from Odisha named Jay Kishore Pradhan cracked the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and will be a first-year MBBS student at the Veer Surendra Rai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) situated in Burla and is considered to be one of the state’s premier medical colleges
An ex-employee of the State Bank of India, it was Pradhan’s childhood dream to become a doctor. The last time he took an entrance exam for MBBS was in the 1970s but he could not clear it back then. As quoted by The Hindu, the sense of non-fulfillment lingered on for him for quite some time but it was this year, he was able to go one step ahead towards his dream.
Pradhan has twin daughters who motivated him to study for the test. Unfortunately, one of them passed away last month. With the muted celebrations, he was determined to study medicine in the memory of his daughter.
In 2019, the Supreme Court had lifted the upper age limit for studying until there is another judgment is passed. Therefore, it gave him more impetus to study MBBS.
Pradhan has been cleared in the specializations of cardiology, pulmonary function, and nephrology.
As this news broke on the internet, netizens lauded him for his determination and further encouraged him to carry on to play the ‘second innings’ of his life.
One of them even accurately called him ‘Jay Bhai MBBS.’
